Flu Vaccine

Influenza vaccines are now available at Allergy Partners of North Texas for the 2016-2017 season!

flu-vaccine-2Injectable influenza vaccine for children as young as 6 months of age is currently available at APNT.   No appointment is necessary to receive influenza vaccines. All influenza vaccines are preservative-free.

The CDC recommends everyone 6 months of age and older, without contraindications, receive the influenza vaccine annually as soon as the vaccine becomes available. The 2016-17 quadravalent influenza vaccine contains the H1N1 influenza A, H3 influenza A, and two influenza B strains.

Infants and children up to 8 years old who have not previously received flu vaccine need two doses, at least four weeks apart. The injectable flu vaccine is made from highly purified, egg grown inactivated (killed) virus and will not cause people to get the flu. Most people have no side effects from influenza vaccines. Flu shots are given by injection into the muscle of the upper arm. This may cause soreness for a day or two at the injection site and occasionally may also cause a fever or muscle aches for one or two days.

Egg allergic patients:  Most egg allergic patients can receive injected flu vaccine. Ask your physician or a APNT nurse about flu vaccine for people with egg allergy.

For those who are not APNT patients, a fee of $40 will be charged for the injectable seasonal flu vaccine. Insurance claims are filed for current APNT patients.
